Kitchen Balance
Is there such a thing as kitchen balance? When it comes to design, balance is key – even in the kitchen.
While it’s true that your kitchen should be a place that is comfortable and homey, it is also a place where you will spend hours cooking scrumptious meals. Therefore, it just makes sense that your space, well, makes sense. This is precisely why a professional designer can really help you to create a room that you will love for years to come. So, what is kitchen balance, exactly?
If you have ever walked into a professional kitchen (or if you have watched one of those kitchen makeover shows), you probably noticed that everything within the space is perfectly laid out and coordinated – this is due to perfect symmetry. You see, it just wouldn’t make any sense to place a refrigerator near a cabinet drawer that would block the fridge space. In this manner, everything within your new space must be perfect.
When you decide to start designing your space, you will likely be asked a variety of questions pertaining to your cooking skills, and the many things that you plan on doing inside of your kitchen. For example, if you adore wine, you may want a large wine cellar to be at the center of your space. Then again, if you plan on cooking for lots of guests every day, you will need lots of counter space. Are you beginning to understand kitchen balance?
When you first start to plan out your space, make sure to try a variety of different floor plans. You will soon see that your overall concept changes as you begin to think about your own lifestyle. While some “cookie cutter” kitchens may be ok for a lot of people, the more personalized your space is the more it reflects you.
Maybe you didn’t think about kitchen balance before, but now that you know this concept exists you can easily begin to design your ideal space. Remember to plan things around your own life, and leave those pre-designed plans to those that do not care for individual design. Take the time to go over the things that matter to you the most – when it comes time for those large family meals, you will be glad that you did!
