Used Kitchen Cabinets

If you are not fond of any modern materials, used kitchen cabinets may be your only option. While difficult to find, these gems are well worth the time.

Many people have the habit of throwing out the old in favor of the new, though this is not always a good idea. While many things were built to last a long time ago, today’s materials often only last for a few years. Additionally, used kitchen cabinets will have that aged look that is so popular within rustic spaces (designers refer to this as a “patina”). So, how do you go about finding those great relics? Well, it won’t be easy, but you can do it.

The obvious place to look is within an antique shop—but this should not be your first option unless you have a rather large budget. Antique shops scoop up the things that nobody else wants, which means that you can play the part of an antique dealer if you know where to look. Try to look online or at estate sales for the cabinets that you want to place inside of your space. If this doesn’t work, you can always knock on the doors of those that are currently in the process of remodelling (most of the time, they will be glad to give them away – just make sure that they are all in one piece!). As a last resort, try an online auction site.

Why should this be your last resort? While you may find the price you are seeking online, you will not be able to touch or see the item with your own eyes. This means bidding upon an item that you purchase based on description alone (and sometimes those descriptions can leave out important details). If you are lucky enough to find some great used kitchen cabinets, make sure that you measure your old space before buying them.

If the ones that you find do not fit into your existing space, you have two options: cut them down to size (have a cabinet maker do this), or cut your space to fit (unless it is too large). Usually, there is a way to solve this dilemma, though it always works best to be prepared before buying.

If you are about to begin the hunt for your perfect used kitchen cabinets, make sure to look high and low. Soon enough, you will find out that one person’s trash is truly another’s treasure.
